Geotechnical Design Services Inc.
Our experience focuses on reinforced soil, earth retaining structures, micro-piling, slope stabilization, and shoring.
We have highlighted some of our work here to give you a flavor of where we've been.
And we look forward to talking with you soon about where we're going.
Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas, NV, (2003)
Drilled Pier Load Test of 2,300 kips.
This was a full scale load test in Las Vegas, NV. The massive frame used two parallel 60" bridge beams to test a 36-inch drilled pier founded on highly cemented caliche at a depth of 30 feet. Because the thickness of the caliche can vary considerably over short distances, piers are routinely tested.
LDS Temple Rehabilitation, Manti, Utah. (1998)
This project involved excavation of the entire east end of the 120 year old historic temple to dry out and waterproof the old, sandstone walls. This photo shows the fill-soil/sandstone bank being stabilized by micropiles and soil nailing.

Kennecott Utah Copper,
Bingham Canyon Mine, Utah. (1999)
This is one of a pair of record
breaking MSE walls. They set a world's
record of 126 feet (38.4 meters)
structural height, with 95,000 square
feet (8,830 square meters) total
design quantity. They were designed
for the Hilfiker Retaining Wall
Company, of Eureka, California.
These walls used several
unique design features (rolled
concrete face, variable base, and
non-mechanical splices) to cope
with the extreme height and operating
conditions.
